Steel Fabrication
Steel made for the job: beams, columns, frames, brackets and supports, cut, drilled and welded to the engineer's drawings and connection details.

Shuttering & Formwork
Formwork is the mould that sets the line, level and surface of the finished concrete.

Reinforced Concrete
Reinforcement fixed to the bar schedule, with spacers and chairs holding the specified cover, then concrete placed and compacted around it.

Foundations
Foundations set out, excavated and concreted to suit the ground and the structural design.

Groundworks
Getting the site ready for the structure: clearance, excavation, reducing levels, and preparing formation and sub-base for bases, hardstanding and access areas.

Drainage & Site Preparation
Trenching and drainage runs laid to fall, service ducts put in before the slab goes down, and ground brought to a firm, level formation so the work that follows starts…

Industrial flooring
MCMurdie Contracts LTD provides industrial concrete flooring for warehouses, agricultural buildings, workshops, factories, commercial units and other large floor areas.

Good to know
Choosing a foundation type
Strip footings carry walls on a continuous band of concrete. Trench-fill is a deeper, narrower version filled almost to ground level, which suits firm clay and saves on blockwork below ground. Pad foundations are isolated bases under columns, which is typical for steel frames.
What formwork decides
Wet concrete pushes hard against its forms, and the push grows with the height of the pour, so wall and column shutters need ties and bracing sized for that load. The face of the formwork also becomes the face of the concrete. Sawn boards leave a board-marked texture, while plywood gives a smoother finish.
Why people choose us
One contractor across the structural trades
When the same contractor handles the steel, formwork and concrete, the details where they meet, such as holding-down bolts cast into bases, are planned together rather than passed between separate firms.
Work done in the right sequence
Drainage and ducts go in before slabs, foundations before steel, and formwork before the pour, so nothing has to be broken out and redone.
Planned around your build
The structural work is arranged around the rest of the programme, so the trades that follow can start on time.
Direct contact
You deal directly with the contractor doing the work, which keeps questions about drawings, levels and changes simple.
Questions
Have a specific question about your drawings or structural package? Call directly or request a quote.
What should I send with a quote request? expand_more
Whatever drawings you have: architect's plans, the structural engineer's drawings and calculations, and any site investigation or soil report. Photos of the site, a note on access for machinery and deliveries, and your rough timescale also help give an accurate picture of the job.
Do I need a structural engineer? expand_more
For steel beams, frames and most foundations, yes. The engineer sizes the members, designs the connections and specifies the foundations and reinforcement, and building control will normally want to see those calculations before approving the work.
Can steelwork be made to fit an existing building? expand_more
Yes. Bespoke steel is fabricated to measured dimensions, which is why accurate site measurements, and allowance for any walls or openings that are out of true, matter before cutting starts.
How do I get a quote? expand_more
Use the Request a quote form with a short description of the job and any drawings you have.
